Costa Rica’s national archaeological heritage is comprised of movable and immovable property in public domain. Their protection and conservation lies with the National Museum of Costa Rica, as State institution accountable in that area.
This heritage is protected by laws approved by the Legislative Assembly at national and international level, as well as by the Executive Power’s decrees.
Many scientific investigations have been done with the purpose of finding out the structures’ and assets’ state of preservation and to make a diagnosis of each one of them: spheres, mounds or bases, and other work areas, be they domestic or funerary settings.
The restoration works which have been made so far in 2016 have been oriented towards the intervention of spheres in public spaces such as parks, educational centers, public service buildings, among which churches and municipalities.
