" Dí˅Crí˅: CHIEFDOMS IN THE DIQUÍS DELTA" EXHIBITION

Exhibicion DivCri

At the Visitors Center of Finca 6 Site Museum you may enjoy the exhibition Dí˅Crí˅ , which narrates of the development of pre-Columbian societies, dwelling on the Diquís delta, specially during the historical period denominated Chiriquí (800 – 1500 A.D.) when they had reached their greatest prominence, constituting complex chiefdoms. Dí˅Crí˅ is a word from the indigenous Boruca language, meaning great water; it refers to the Grande de Térraba river.

The exhibition explains the relationship of ancient communities with the environment which  inspired their vision of the world and supported them. It shows the social and cultural complexity attained, portrayed in the construction of important villages and the utilization of public sculptures to symbolize power, express ideas and affirm their communal identity.

The shows emphasizes Finca 6 Archaeological Site as an iconic village of the Delta’s chiefdoms, and the stone spheres, unique objects of Costa Rican archaeology.

Its most attractive features include 4 original sculptures: a stone sphere, a peg-base human figure statue, a feline sculpture and a ceremonial grinding stone.  The pieces show how elaborate the  sculpture work is.

Dí˅Crí˅ also calls on the importance of conserving this heritage, of making the community’s relationship with its cultural heritage closer, as well as the country’s efforts to preserve sites with stone spheres as Humanity’s Heritage.

Its visit is recommended as an introduction to the tour of Finca 6 archaeological site.
